HMC Expert: Matthew Spencer
Matthew Spencer, PhD, researches circuit design, with an emphasis on circuits that are not built entirely from transistors. Currently he is working on characterizing ground plane noise in PCBs, simulating phase change memories and investigating applications of radio frequency design techniques to underwater communication links.
Spencer has also worked on building computers out of micro-electro-mechanical relays (tiny mechanical switches) to reduce the power required for computation.
Spencer completed a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering at MIT and a PhD in electrical engineering at University of California, Berkeley.
