Lucas Lang ’25, a computer science major at Harvey Mudd College, earned the national championship in the 1650-yard freestyle for the second year in a row, taking first place in 15:18.01 on the final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

Last year, in a dramatic finish, Lang held on to win by just seven-hundredths of a second over Connor Vincent of NYU in 15:17.48. This year there was less drama as Lang surged into the lead at the midway point and held a lead of two body lengths down the stretch.

Tyler Distenfeld of Denison earned second place with a time of 15:20.19, a margin of just over two seconds. Vincent was fourth.

The March 22 meet marks the fourth year in a row that the Stags have had a national champion. Frank Applebaum took first in the 200 fly in both 2022 and 2023, while Lang has won the last two titles in the 1650.

Lang also earned first-team All-America honors in the 500 with a third-place finish. Jeremy Tan ’26, also a computer science major at Harvey Mudd, captured second-team All-America honors in the 100 back and earned second-team All-America honors in both the 200-medley and the 400-medley relays.
