HMC Expert: Alfred Flores
Alfred P. Flores, PhD, is a historian of U.S. empire in Oceania with an emphasis on diaspora, labor, indigeneity, militarism, oral history and settler colonialism in Micronesia. He is the author of Tip of the Spear: Land, Labor, and US Settler Militarism in Guahan, 1944-1962 (Cornell University Press, 2023). His research has appeared in Amerasia Journal, American Quarterly, Critical Ethnic Studies Journal, the Okinawan Journal of Island Studies and the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of American History. Dr. Flores is currently working on his second book, Transoceanic Micronesians: CHamoru and Marshallese Community Formation in Southern California.
Flores holds a PhD in U.S. history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.A. in public history and B.A. in history from the University of California, Riverside. Prior to joining Harvey Mudd, Flores was an Assistant Professor of History and Ethnic Studies at Riverside City College.
