HMC Jumps to No. 12 in U.S. News Rankings

Harvey Mudd College ranked No. 12 among the nation’s liberal arts colleges in the 2013 U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings released today.

The College rose from last year’s No. 18 slot to sharing the No. 12 position this year with Davidson College in North Carolina.

HMC ranked No. 1 for selectivity, had the highest incoming student SAT/ACT percentile range scores (25th-75th), and the highest percentage of first-years who ranked in the top 10 percent in their high school class (95 percent).

Among undergraduate engineering colleges, HMC ranked No. 2 this year. The engineering program at HMC received special recognition in the Engineering Colleges’ “Best in the Specialties” listings, ranking fourth in Computer Engineering, and second in Electrical/Electronic/Communications Engineering.

In the High School Counselors’ Picks, HMC was rated No. 2, sharing that slot with the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy. The U.S. Naval Academy ranked No. 1.  All five of The Claremont Colleges ranked in the Top 20 of the High School Counselors’ ratings.

U.S. News and World Report’s rankings are based on a selection of indicators of academic excellence, including: undergraduate academic reputation (22.5 percent); graduation and retention rates (20 percent); faculty resources (20 percent); student selectivity (15 percent); financial resources (10 percent); graduation rate performance (7.5 percent); and alumni giving (5 percent).
