Accreditation of Harvey Mudd College Reaffirmed
March 17, 2022In February the accreditation of Harvey Mudd College by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) was reaffirmed for a 10-year period, the maximum term possible. To receive 10 years, an institution must be found to be in substantial compliance with WSCUC standards and to have no consequential issues that affect the institution’s ability to carry out its mission at a high level of quality.
The Commission commended the College in several areas, including:
- Broadly held and exceptional commitment to student learning and success and mission-driven ethos.
- Caring, collaborative and supportive community and especially the ethos that students support each other in their endeavors and success.
- Genuine commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the significant diversification of the student body, recognizing there is still progress to be made.
More detail can be found in the Commission Action Letter conveying the College’s accreditation.
The commission’s decision was informed by the report of the review team that conducted the accreditation visit with HMC Oct. 12-15, 2021, and by HMC’s Institutional Report submitted to WSCUC in August 2021.
President Maria Klawe said, “We truly appreciate the guidance provided by the review team and the WSCUC Commission. I’d like to thank Harvey Mudd’s WSCUC Steering Committee and Faculty Assessment and Accreditation Committee members for their work guiding our campus through the process. This effort would be challenging in the best of times, but the fact that our committee worked through this process during the pandemic and the extreme disruption it has caused is truly remarkable.”
