Southern California Wildfire Update from the Office of Financial Aid

Share story

In the wake of the devastating fires across Southern California, many families have been evacuated and are in the process of assessing the impact the fires have had. In light of the national disaster declaration, the state Cal Grant program deadline has been extended for all high schools and colleges within Los Angeles and Ventura counties to April 2, 2025. Students affected by the fires may apply for Cal Grants by filing the FAFSA or CADAA until April 2, 2025. Please visit the CSAC website for more information and resources.

Students, staff and faculty have been directly impacted by the wildfires, and while safety is the first priority, we understand that as residents are able to return to their homes and assess the impact, there may be financial impacts as a result of the fires. The Office of Financial Aid staff understands that there will be financial challenges as a result of these fires and we are here to assist you. Families may submit a letter of special circumstances and supporting documents to our office by email at financial_aid@hmc.edu and we will work with you to best address your needs. Additional aid may be provided in the form of loans or grants or a combination of both depending on eligibility and availability.
We offer our support to all in our community that are suffering from these catastrophic wildfires.
