Club Highlight: PRISM
January 24, 2022To most, A prism is a triangular piece of glass or plastic that takes in white light and bends it, producing a rainbow on the other side.
At Mudd, People Respecting Identities and Sexualities at Mudd (PRISM) is a student organization that supports Mudd’s queer community by providing opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to socialize in a friendly environment, discuss issues facing the queer community at Mudd, and advocate for positive change.
The Office of Admission caught up with the PRISM Co-Presidents, Georgia, Allie, and Felix, who shared some insight on this club.
At Mudd, the community is a huge part of the student experience. Students and alums alike love talking about the connections that they find as a Mudder. PRISM serves to connect LGBTQ+ students at Mudd and help to build a supportive and caring community. The club also advocates for changes related to LGBTQ+ issues at HMC.
Some of the fun events PRISM leads are dinners with LGBTQ+ professors, club lunches, and cheese nights. The group also has a discord server, runs a school-wide event called “squash for your squish and crush for your crush” and also gives out pride packages. Frosh can also join the club and be matched with a PRISM mentor!
If you are interested in PRISM when you arrive at Mudd, a great way to get involved is to join their discord server and sign up for the frosh mentor program.
The Claremont Colleges also have great resources for LGBTQ+ students. The Queer Resources Center (located on CMC’s campus) is a safe space for students, staff, and faculty who have queer and trans identities. They host game nights, mixers, and other events for queer students. Moreover, they provide resources to LGBTQ+ allies. Check out the QRC on Instagram to see a list of events.
