Harvey Mudd College Visitor Policy

Thank you for your interest in visiting Harvey Mudd College. Please see the following sections for the College’s policies for visitors.

Media Release

Harvey Mudd College (HMC) reserves the right to photograph and/or videotape students, faculty, staff and guests while on College property, during College-sponsored events (whether in-person or virtual) or during activities where they are representing the College. These images and audio may be used by Harvey Mudd College for promotional purposes, including use in/on the College magazine, press releases, booklets, brochures, flyers, newsletters, advertisements, the College website, associated websites, social media and other promotional materials. This serves as public notice of the College’s intent to do so and as a release of permission to the College to use such images as it deems fit. If you object to the use of your image, you have the right to withhold its release by contacting admission@hmc.edu.

Visitor Policy

By visiting HMC and/or attending any of our in-person or virtual programs, you, the student and parent/guardian, confirm that you have read, fully understand and voluntarily accept all the provisions of this page. You agree to submit and sign any visitor policy forms electronically, and understand an electronic signature has the same legal effect and can be enforced in the same way as a written signature. If the student is under 18 years of age, the signature of the parent/guardian waives all claims on the student’s behalf.

For Students and/or Other Guests:

As a guest, Harvey Mudd College requires that you assume the same responsibility for your actions that Harvey Mudd students have assumed. Please read the following statement and acknowledge that you understand the statement prior to your visit. If you do not understand the statement or how it applies to you, please contact admission@hmc.edu prior to your visit, and our staff will kindly clarify any points of confusion.

Regarding All Campus Visits and Activities:

  • I understand that in the case that meals are provided by HMC, I must notify the appropriate HMC staff of any dietary restrictions.
  • I understand that in the case that HMC has purchased my airplane ticket (if applicable), should I choose not to attend the designated program, my family agrees to assume responsibility for the full cost of the airfare and any applicable booking fees.
  • I am aware that participants in on-campus visitation programs are required to abide by California state law and the policies that govern students enrolled at Harvey Mudd College (https://www.hmc.edu/student-life/student-handbook/).
    • I acknowledge that California law prohibits the drinking of alcoholic beverages by persons under 21 years of age as well as all use of controlled substances.
  • I agree to abide by and comply with the applicable rules, regulations, policies, practices, and instructions of Harvey Mudd College and to use reasonable care in all that I do.
  • I understand that in any activity there is risk of injury, illness, damage and loss and I assume the risk of injury or damage to me or my property from participating in such activities.
  • Further, I understand that any negative behavior during my campus stay will be considered by the Office of Admission. Any violation of the rules stated above or any damage to Harvey Mudd property may impact my offer of admission to Harvey Mudd College.

Regarding Campus Overnight Stays:

  • I am aware that although Harvey Mudd College has agreed to host me overnight, neither the Office of Admission nor any other office or personnel of Harvey Mudd College will be supervising me at all times during my stay on campus. Harvey Mudd students sign and abide by an Honor Code which calls on individuals to take responsibility for their own actions. We expect visiting students to do the same.

For Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

Please read the following statement and acknowledge that you understand the statement prior to your child’s and/or other guests’ visit. If you do not understand the statement or how it applies to you, please contact admission@hmc.edu prior to your visit, and our staff will kindly clarify any points of confusion.

  • I, the parent or guardian of the child and/or other guests, give permission for my child to visit and, if applicable, stay overnight at Harvey Mudd College. I understand that HMC staff and students will not supervise or chaperone my child throughout the entirety of their visit, and that my child is responsible for all conduct and decisions regarding program participation and social activities.
  • I understand that if my child and/or other guests do not abide by the rules and regulations, as described in the section above, they may be dismissed from the program, and their admission to Harvey Mudd College may be negatively impacted. I agree to assume responsibility for any costs associated with dismissal from the program.
  • In case of emergency and if I cannot be reached, I, the parent or guardian of the child and/or other guests, do hereby authorize a representative of Harvey Mudd College to consent to any medical treatment or care deemed advisable. I understand that Harvey Mudd College does not provide health or other insurance to me, my child, or my guests and that I will be responsible for the entire cost of all necessary medical services during their stay.
  • I understand that in the case that HMC has purchased my child’s and/or other guests’ airplane tickets (if on an applicable program), should my child and/or other guests choose not to attend the program, I agree to assume responsibility for the full cost of the airfare and any applicable booking fees.
  • I hereby indemnify and hold harmless Harvey Mudd College, its agents and employees including board of trustees, directors and officers. I release and give up all claims, including claims of negligence, I may have in the future against the Party Released that arise out of my child’s and/or other guests’ participation in this activity.
