GOLD Volunteer Opportunities
When you’re ready, there are many ways to support your community by volunteering your time and expertise. It’s a fun and rewarding way to stay connected with fellow alumni and the campus community! No matter your availability, interests or location, we have ways for you to get involved.
If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, please contact your GOLD staff liaisons at gold@hmc.edu or submit our volunteer interest form.
GOLD Ambassador
Are you that person who everyone else in your class just sort of knows? Outgoing and not shy about sharing feedback? You might be an undiscovered GOLD Ambassador. GOLD Ambassadors will partner with the GOLD staff liaisons to support Graduates Of the Last Decade as a unique and connected group, leading by example to encourage active participation and support. You’ll act as both class ambassadors and advisors on GOLD Society programs and activities. As this is a leadership role, we ask volunteers to sign on for a one-year commitment (about 1-2 hours per month, if that).
GOLD Events and Programming
Are you a lover of group activities? A natural host seeking an outlet? GOLD events tend to be casual and can range from happy hours to game nights to tea parties to group meditation…we are open to (almost) anything you can invent in your head. These are meant to be fun and chill opportunities to build community around mutual interests and passions. GOLD events are by invitation only and are limited to the graduates of the last decade. All we need from you is an idea, date and time, and we will back you up with all of the logistics and marketing.
Mudd Talks or GOLD Talks
Are you passionate about a specific topic, whether that be your job or your hobby, and want to let the community know? Mudd Talks gives you the opportunity to share your knowledge through a virtual discussion series open to the HMC community. Speakers select topics in their area of expertise and give a presentation or discussion followed by a Q-and-A via Zoom webinar. For past Mudd Talks, please visit the HMC YouTube Channel.
If you prefer a smaller audience, GOLD Talks would be for you. It’s our Zoom version of a TED Talk, exclusively for GOLD alums.
GOLDen Knowledge
Do you enjoy dazzling people with your mastery of everyday handy skills? GOLDen Knowledge is a series of workshops/webinars that focuses on necessary life skills needed after graduation and beyond. Choose any topic pertaining to careers or general life, and coach your fellow GOLD Mudders.
Social Media
Are you a social media guru willing to help spread the word about all things Mudd? Do you want a really easy way to get (imaginary) points for volunteering? We have the job for you! Post (or re-post) about current HMC news and happenings on your personal social media channels to keep your Mudd friends informed, and to let the rest of the world witness the magic that is Harvey Mudd College. Maybe you’ll never reach the stratosphere status of social media influencer…but you CAN reach the much lower bar of a social media Mudd-fluencer.
Mudd Chats
So you’ve left Mudd, and now you have a vast wealth of experience and advice to share with current students. But how? Funny you should ask… Mudd Chats is a small-group discussion series that connects alumni and students in an hour-long, informal setting. These virtual gatherings are hosted by alumni and centered around various themes pertaining to careers, life and more. They are short and simple, but they can also be extremely impactful for students. You can host on your own or team up with a partner or two.
Adulting After Mudd
Do you prefer to make your contributions in writing and on your own time? Consider authoring a blog post for our Adulting After Mudd series. These articles offer recent graduates advice in navigating different aspects of the real world. Topic areas might include (but are not limited to) self care, career issues, life skills, how-to or DIY instructions, etc. The piece doesn’t have to be super long, and you can co-author with a friend if you like.
