Hoch-Shanahan Dining Commons
The state-of-the-art Hoch-Shanahan Dining Commons features open exhibition kitchen areas, seating for nearly 500, five private dining rooms and outside patio areas. The building, named for trustees Richmond J. Hoch ’63 and his wife, Diane, and R. Michael Shanahan and his wife, Mary, is certified under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines. It is home to the Aviation Room, which celebrates the College’s former Bates Aeronautics Program and its graduates.
The Café
Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–7 p.m.
Serving Starbuck’s coffee and a variety of snacks, The Café is used by all members of the Harvey Mudd community. It’s a great place to hang out, especially in the area known as the Living Room. The Café is located at the southwest corner of the R. Michael Shanahan Center for Teaching and Learning.
Jay’s Place
Sunday–Thursday, 7 p.m.–1 a.m.
Friday–Saturday 8 p.m.–2 a.m.
For those looking to just hang out and grab a quick snack–including many items available during the day in the Café–Jay’s Place is a late-night lounge that has fast become the place to meet at Harvey Mudd College.
The popular eatery was named for Jay Wolkin ’99, a fun-loving, exuberant engineering major who died in an airplane crash shortly before he was to graduate.
