HMC Student Opportunity Funds

Thanks to the support of generous donors, HMC offers financial support to students with non-tuition expenses related to emergencies, extra-curricular or co-curricular programs and opportunities. Additionally, students experiencing unforeseen circumstances and life altering events impacting their ability to cover everyday living expenses may be eligible.

Please note that funding is not guaranteed.

Extra-Curricular and Co-Curricular Funding

Extra-curricular and co-curricular funding is available for, but not limited to:

  • Unexpected expenses related to internships.
  • Non-tuition costs arising from co-curricular programs.
  • Registration, travel and lodging costs incurred for professional and career development conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Expenses related to student research and assignments which might require additional travel and lodging costs beyond what is covered by tuition.
  • Participation in experiential-learning programs.
  • Participation in Club Sport travel and championship tournaments (if funding is not available through CMS or ASPC).

Emergency Loans

Emergency loans can be applied to, but not limited to:

  • Unexpected medical, optical or dental expenses, not covered by required insurance.
  • Travel to respond to a family emergency.

Use the HMC Student Opportunity Funds form to apply for extra-curricular, co-curricular funding or an emergency loan.

Mental Health Reimbursements

Mental health reimbursements (up to $250/year) can subsidize:

  • Mental health services/copays (e.g. appointment).
  • Transportation to said appointments.
  • Medication for mental health.

Use the SPC Mental Health Reimbursement Form to submit a mental health reimbursement request.

Please be aware that:

  • Student Opportunity Funds are only available to currently enrolled students at HMC.
  • Funding requests are accepted year-round and are not guaranteed.
  • Awards will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the high volume of requests, students will only be notified if funds become available.
  • Awards are given in the form of a one-time stipend and limited to one per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). In some cases, purchases and/or reimbursements may be required.
  • If awarded a loan from the Emergency Loan Fund, those funds are required to be repaid to the college within 5 years of separation from the college (graduation, withdrawal or transfer).
  • The Office of Financial Aid is notified of all stipends. Stipends qualify as part of a student’s financial aid package. Therefore, a stipend might reduce other financial aid that you have been awarded, depending on the type of aid received. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the financial aid office with any questions regarding your financial aid package.
