Aircraft smoke detectors accurately detect fires but, due to the nature of their detection method, struggle to ignore false alarms. This prompts the question: Is there a better way to detect combustion? Meggitt Fire & Safety wants to find out. They supply stand-alone smoke detection systems for aerospace applications, and have tasked the team with finding the potential next generation of detection technology. The team has worked to research novel sensing techniques and validate proof of concepts of chosen designs.
