Monitoring the operation of a dam or its spillway requires knowledge of key behavioral characteristics that can be used for early intervention should conditions change that could affect its continued safe operation. The SCE Clinic team is developing field procedures for establishing baseline conditions in a spillway that produce key Performance Indicators that detect changes in the spillway’s condition. Deliverables include documentation of recommended procedures, analysis methods and procedures for producing the indicators, and an evaluation of an existing spillway.
