AMETEK Ameron, an aviation safety equipment provider, repairs fire suppression bottles and fills them with recycled Halon 1301, a powerful fire suppressant. The Ametek Clinic team was tasked with producing a system to purify contaminated mixtures to 99.6% purity Halon. To design the purification system in the fall, the team researched contaminants and conducted process simulations with Pro/II Process Engineering Software. In the spring, the team built and optimized a prototype packed distillation column.
