Medtronic is a global medical device company dedicated to alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life. The team assessed the Medtronic Affinity Fusion Oxygenator for Extracorporeal CO2 Removal by characterizing its effectiveness at removing excess CO2 from blood. The team conducted CO2 removal experiments while maintaining requisite oxygen levels and without inducing adverse biological responses. This work has the potential to decrease mortality rates by giving patients who suffer from respiratory failure-induced hypercapnia access to safer and more comfortable treatment.
