Postdoctoral Researcher in Theory and Simulation of Polymer Solutions

We seek a postdoctoral scholar to develop a hybrid adaptive particle-field simulation method for polymer solutions and investigate solution-phase polymer physics in a range of applications. The postdoc will join the effort connected to an NSF-funded project that provides three-year support for the postdoctoral scholar. The position can start as soon as September 2024.

Salary range $67,000-$70,000

The Harvey Mudd College Chemical Physics Lab focuses on using theory and simulations to understand the complex correlation and structure in liquids and develop new tools to model liquids. Current projects include deciphering the underlying molecular organization of water, understanding peptide hydrogel self-assembly, and developing statistical field theories for polar and polarizable liquids. Interested applicants should have completed their PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field and have some background in statistical field theory and computational simulation. The scholar will collaborate with HMC Chemical Physics Lab’s PI, Bilin Zhuang, who can be reached via email (bzhuang@g.hmc.edu) to answer any questions. For more information on topics of interest
and ongoing research projects, please see the Lab’s webpage: https://zhuangchemphys.wordpress.com/”

Harvey Mudd College is a liberal arts college of science, engineering and mathematics located in Claremont, CA, which is approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. The college enrolls about 900 students, and is a member of the Claremont Colleges, which comprises five undergraduate colleges, the Claremont Graduate University, and the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences. Harvey Mudd College is an equal opportunity employer. The Department of Chemistry at Harvey Mudd College has been recognized as a leader in teaching, research, undergraduate research mentoring, and educational outreach.

In addition to pursuing in-depth independent research, the postdoc will mentor undergraduate students in a range of research projects. Based on the postdoc’s interests and goals, the postdoc may be provided with opportunities for in-class teaching and gain the experience and preparation necessary for working at a small liberal arts college.

The postdoc will be offered ample opportunities for professional development, including participating in early-career faculty mentoring experiences at Harvey Mudd College and at the seven-college consortium in Claremont.
