Stop-Work Policy
All Harvey Mudd staff, faculty, students and facility users are responsible for stopping work activities that represent an imminent danger. Imminent danger means a reasonable expectation of substantial harm to the well-being of Harvey Mudd community members or the environment.
When encountering an imminent danger, such individuals should:
- Alert the affected persons of the imminent danger and request that the activity be suspended immediately until the threat has been mitigated.
- Notify an immediate supervisor or responsible department manager or Campus Safety (x72000).
Work may be resumed upon approval of the faculty PI (for faculty labs or faculty-supervised spaces) or supervisor (for other spaces), and after consultation with at least one of the department chair, lab safety officer, dean, or their appropriate designee(s) and notification of the Senior Director for Facilities, Emergency Preparedness and Safety.
If the work-stoppage resulted from a building or building-system failure (such as fume hood or fire alarm failure), work should only be resumed with the approval of the Senior Director for Facilities, Emergency Preparedness and Safety or their designee.
