Laser Safety Program
Harvey Mudd College’s Laser Safety Program is based on best-practice guidance provided by the American National Standards Institute’s series of laser safety standards. The Laser Safety Officer is responsible for administering the program in order to ensure that laser exposures are always below the maximum permissible exposure limits. All class 3B and class 4 lasers with the beam exposed shall be inventoried upon receipt, operated by users with the appropriate training and protective equipment, and energized in a designated laser controlled area as determined by the Laser Safety Officer.
