Lori Bassman Research Group
The Jude and Eileen Laspa Fellowship in Applied Mechanics
The Jude and Eileen Laspa Fellowship Program in Applied Mechanics provides students at Harvey Mudd College with an opportunity to pursue mechanics-focused research problems that come from a range of multidisciplinary applications, building on the unique general engineering program at Harvey Mudd. The program focuses on developing analytical and computational skills and methods that can be applied to maximize the impact of experiments.
Lori Bassman joined HMC in 2000 and is a Professor of Engineering and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She received a B.S. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. She currently is the director of the Jude and Eileen Laspa Fellowship in Applied Mechanics, and received NSF grants for work with Laspa Fellows at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia to develop novel high-entropy alloys (HEAs) with properties exceeding those of conventional engineering metals.
