McGregor Center Makerspace Sponsorship Opportunities

Bolstering Our Culture of Creating

Since its founding, Harvey Mudd has encouraged students to explore the relationships among the College’s various disciplines so that they can better understand the impact of their work on society. The new makerspace in the Scott A. McGregor Computer Science Center—the first permanent makerspace on the campus—fosters and supports this hallmark of strengthened interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary exploration while providing additional opportunities for partnership with other centers and programs in Claremont such as the Rick and Susan Sontag Center for Collaborative Creativity (“The Hive”) and with the College’s existing shops.

Meeting the Need

While the College has secured the required funding to complete construction of the McGregor Computer Science Center, there is still a need for makerspace support. This includes opportunities in areas such as leadership and staffing, equipment to power student and faculty creativity, resources for community engagement, and funding for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary programming development.

Opportunities remain in the following areas:

  1. Naming spaces in the makerspace
  2. Funding student stewards
  3. Funding much-needed equipment
