Gail Hampsmire '98

Employee

As I went up to get my diploma, Jon Strauss (then president of HMC) told me that Malcolm Lewis wanted to talk to me after the close of the ceremony. I had interviewed twice with Malcolm, and found out at my graduation that I would have the pleasure of working for him. Working for and with Malcolm for over 10 years was a great pleasure. Malcolm was generally caring and concerned, and had a tremendous vision and passion for sustainability that was infectious. I learned much from Malcolm, and he will be greatly missed.

Erik Ring '96

Friend and colleague

As a mentor, employer, and friend, Malcolm had a profound impact on me, on many Mudders, and on many others. Malcolm possessed a keen intellect coupled with warmth and compassion. His commitment to leaving the world a better place was an inspiration. He will truly be missed.

Tom Lunneberg

Colleague and Friend

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Malcolm from 1994 through 2006. Working with ML over the years has shaped the way I approach problem solving in pretty much all aspects of my life. Most importantly, he taught me about maintaining smiling grace under pressure and adversity. He will be missed– and yet his legacy presses onward through the minds he has elevated, the lives he has touched, and his indelible mark on the built environment.

Noble Frye

Associate

The one and only boss I truly loved! We shared the same love of architects and architecture. We shared our faith and our love of our Lord.
He was a blessed instrument in my later life and vocation, I will always be greatful! 20 years with Malcolm I will always cherish.

Maggie Plunkett

Former Administrative Assistant to BAO and to Board of Trustee members

Always a smile and a kind word to move the college onto bigger and better things. Thanks for being there for HMC, Malcolm.
