I was Olivia’s Advanced Chinese instructor this semester. She always sat next to the door in the classroom. Most of the time when I went to the classroom, she had already arrived, and as soon as I opened the door, I would see her smiling at me. Her smile was always warm and sincere. Olivia was an outstanding student. Olivia consistently approached learning Chinese with passion and dedication. She put in her best effort to prepare thoroughly for every exam. For each presentation, she prepared meticulously.

I struggle to put words down to describe how wonderful Olivia was. I wish I had more time to spend with her, I wish I knew just how quickly things could all change. I wish I could talk with her about coffee again. I hope she is at peace.

There could be no gentler, kinder, funnier, or more wonderful person than her. She was someone you could always count on to brighten your life by simply existing, and my days are forever dimmed without her presence. She made each day worth looking forward to. I will never forget the memories we made, bonding over our shared interests, joys and even woes. Now and forever, I carry those memories with me.
