Dear Harriet,

Congratulations on your inauguration as the sixth president of Harvey Mudd College! I was thrilled to hear the news of your selection last year. I’m sorry that I can’t make it to your inauguration, but I have asked Belinda Batten to go and represent Oregon State University. 

I learned a great deal from you, and I greatly appreciate your contributions to Oregon State and to the profession. And I still can’t believe that I took you to the Benton County Fair! I have not had a corn dog since. 

I am confident that Harvey Mudd will thrive under your leadership and continue to educate some of the country’s finest engineers and scientists. We’re cheering you on here at Oregon State and will always think of you as one of our own. Wishing you the best, Harriet!
