Jaron Kent-Dobias, who conducted research with Professor Andrew Bernoff on two-dimensional fluids with dipole interactions, has been selected as a finalist by the Apker Committee. Two LeRoy Apker Awards are given annually by the American Physical Society for outstanding achievement in physics by an undergraduate, one for students from PhD granting institutions and one for students from non-PhD granting institutions.

The award includes $5000 and a travel allowance to the APS meeting at which the award is presented. Jaron is HMC’s eighth Apker finalist in the past sixteen years. He will be presenting his research to the Apker Committee in early September.

Jaron has already begun research at Cornell University, where he is pursuing a PhD in condensed matter theory. Congratulations to Jaron and Prof. Bernoff; break a leg at the presentation on September 11! The winners will be announced in mid October.
