Success and Failure on Mars: Mechanics in the Exploration of Space

The US National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNC/TAM), of which the APS is a member society, will launch a Distinguished Lecture series on Friday, April 30, at 3pm Pacific Daylight Time (6pm Eastern).  The inaugural lecture will be given by Adam Steltzner of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Chief Engineer on the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover and entitled Success and Failure on Mars: Mechanics in the Exploration of Space”. 

The objective of this series is to convey the excitement, to stimulate interest, and to discuss opportunities in the mechanical sciences and engineering related to advances in infrastructure, automation, transportation, energy, bio-medicine, sustainability, exploration, and other areas. The targeted audience includes students and teachers interested in STEM fields at high schools, undergraduates and the general public, but we hope the lectures will also be of interest to graduate students and older researchers.
