Matthew Reed ’07 Wins APS Prize

HMC Physics alumnus, Matthew D. Reed ’07, was honored with the 2015 Richard L. Greene Dissertation Award in Experimental Condensed Matter or Materials Physics by the American Physical Society. The citation reads:

For original contributions to research on superconducting qubits and for a remarkably detailed and complete description of the state-of-the-art in solid state quantum computing.

The approach Matt helped develop in the laboratory of Professor Robert Schoelkopf and Yale University relies on cavity quantum electrodynamics. His thesis “reports the first demonstration of tripartite entanglement and quantum error correction in a solid state device.” Besides the Greene Award, his thesis was awarded the CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award in the field of mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering.

Matt has joined the technical staff at HRL Laboratories, where he is working on quantum information processing with silicon quantum dots. Congratulations, Matt!
