Strategic Planning Updates
February 9, 2024Dear HMC Community:
I hope this message finds you well. As we continue our journey to shape the future of the College through the strategic planning process, I’m writing to share some updates and next steps.
Last month, we took a significant step forward with a community-wide participation in a Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results (SOAR) analysis. With approximately 100 participants across two sessions, we used GroupMap to collect 889 ideas in our SOAR analysis, fostering lively conversations.
In addition, the membership of the Steering Committee and the three Working Groups–Imagining Harvey Mudd, Academic Vision, and Student Experience–have been determined. The rosters are provided below. I’m grateful for the enthusiastic response to the invitations to serve in this capacity. A charge meeting will be held virtually on Feb. 15 at 12:30 p.m. to provide an overview of the topics each group is being asked to explore. This session will be recorded for those unable to attend.
There will be additional opportunities for segments of our community to provide ideas and input into the SOAR analysis:
Student-focused SOAR analysis – Feb. 20, 11 a.m.–Noon in the Aviation Room
Staff-focused SOAR analysis – Feb. 22, 9–10 a.m. in the Aviation Room
Faculty-focused SOAR analysis – Feb. 22, Noon–1 p.m. in the Green Room
Ideas will be captured in GroupMap and compiled with the input already received. Steering Committee and Working Group members are invited to any of these sessions as schedules allow.
The insights from the SOAR analysis will be the input for the three Working Groups. The Steering Committee will assist me in guiding the planning efforts, ensuring the effective integration of recommendations from the Working Groups into our finalized strategic plan, which will be essential as we go into our comprehensive campaign.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible engagement and dedication demonstrated by our HMC community thus far. Your participation in the SOAR analysis, discussions, and committees are vital contributions to shaping the future of Harvey Mudd College. As we embark on this strategic planning journey together, I am confident that our collective efforts will lead to a vibrant and successful future for our institution. Thank you for your ongoing commitment and support.
Kind regards,
Harriet
